10 Stunning Photos of Kampot

February 9, 2011 · 22 comments

One of the people who commented on my Images of Kampot #4 – The Salt Fields post a few weeks ago was an English guy called Darren Wilch.

He linked to his flickr page and to some stunning photos he had taken during his time in Kampot recently. I immediately got in contact with him and asked if he’d be happy to let me display his photos on Tales from an Expat.   He was happy to oblige.

There are a collection of twenty outstanding shots in this set.

Here are my favourite ten -

Darren says he is now planning to stay in Cambodia for a while to concentrate on his photography so hopefully we’ll be seeing more of his work soon.

Like many others he has given up the day job back in Norwich, England to follow his passion and I really admire that. I wish him all the luck making a life for himself in Cambodia.

Beautiful! I love all the smiling faces. The Khmer people are genuinely so friendly.

One of my fondest memories of Kampot is being at a little restaurant on a lazy afternoon with my boyfriend. Food was taking a while so we took out a deck of cards to play crazy 8s while we waited. Some of the locals eating there started watching us and we were worried it was inappropriate (like in Thailand), but it was quite the opposite — they wanted to learn our game! So over a few Anchors we taught them crazy 8s!

Yes, the Cambodians love any card game…

… especially if money is involved!

      Glad you enjoyed Kampot.

These photos are STUNNING!!! You have massive talent! Obviously they put my photos of Kampot to shame. I’m assuming you’re a professional photographer. If you’re not, I think it’s time for a career change.

A lot of these photos are of the non-Khmer Cham ethnic minority, aren’t they? I’m interested in seeing more about ethnic minorities in Cambodia.
